In grade 12 is certainly a very busy year for our students! By the end of fall of their senior year, students are encourage to finalize their plans, including their college lists, with their counselor. Additionally, students who are making plans to enter technical schools, community colleges or the military are also encouraged finalize their plans at this time. Many colleges and universities have deadlines as early as mid- October and early November. Additionally, our department always encourages students who are applying to any of the CT State Universities, to apply no later than December 1. In late September of this year, the guidance department will host College Application Night. Students and parents are encouraged to attend this evening meeting which will focus solely on the college application process. During the school day in early October, seniors will attend the SHS College Fair. Throughout most of September, October and November, in addition to the College Fair, college representatives from select schools will make visits to our Career Center. Students may view the schedule and sign-up to attend these visits through their Naviance account. These visits are intended for students who have a sincere interest in a particular school, and would like an opportunity to meet with the school's representative. Finally, in late fall, SHS will host a Financial Aid Night. This evening will focus on all aspects of financial aid including FAFSA, student loans, and scholarships. The event is facilitated by Carolyn Karno of Education Funding Strategies. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this very informative evening session!
